Here are my thoughts on the Battle of Fort Sanders reenactment. It is only a few miles from my home, so I thought I'd go scope it out. This started as a forum reply, but it got so long I decided to make an article out of it. Enjoy!
I was able to go check out the Sunday battle and look over the site a little. For the most part it is what you'd expect compared to most events we attend. The site is on private property and is actually quite large and spread out. The replica fort is a good distance from the road, but that is by design, to avoid power lines and other modern artifacts. The land is quite contoured, and I could tell that getting vehicles in and out could pose some issues if the weather is very wet. Still, it has been pretty wet lately and they managed to get in and out OK.
The site has been up and running for a while now and I am
glad to see that folks are getting registered and using the site more and
more. After the Unit Meeting, the site
will become THE place for all C7 news and information, so it is important that
everyone has access to the site and knows how to use the various features. With
that in mind, here are a few recommendations for taking full advantage of the
website.
1.Sign up! – If you haven’t already
registered on the site, it is very simple. All you need is a valid email
address. Just click the “Register” link in the Login Pane and fill out and
submit the form. When you receive the confirmation email, just click the link
inside it and you’re done. Once an admin activates your account, you’ll be a
member.
If you are already a member, spread the word
and get everyone else on board.
Welcome to the new C7 website! I'd like to thank all of you who have signed
up on the site so far. We have a good number of folks participating already and
we're looking forward to getting even more of our C7 family on board as time
goes on. This site is meant to be a one-stop-shop for all things C7 where we
can exchange information about this great unit and our outstanding hobby.
Consider it a "virtual campfire" where we can keep up with the latest
happenings, and reconnect with old friends who have not made it out to many
real campfires in a long time.
